Few updates

May 10th, 2016 § Comments Off on Few updates § permalink

I have redone the Document List and Photo List. Was having problems with the original not linking directly to the files, so went through and created a new one. Also, I hopefully have fixed all of the bad links. No guarantee on this, but a majority of the broken links should be fixed. I am also now working on getting my Mothers side on this site as well. Will take a while, but should have it done by this time next year. In the meantime, I will be adding bits and pieces as I get the information. As always, feel free to drop me line at delkbrian@earthlink.net.

Franklin Delk

February 12th, 2016 § Comments Off on Franklin Delk § permalink

I have added some documents for Franklin Delk, Elmer’s son first child. In doing so, it solved a mystery for me. I had some photos with people id as the Isom’s, no idea who they were or how they were related to the Delk family. Turns out that Isom is the maiden name of Elizabeth Delk, Frank’s last wife. Her obituary is a part of the documents that have been scanned and uploaded,  take a look. Hopefully will be adding more in the next few months.

Ethelred’s son, William

August 13th, 2014 § Comments Off on Ethelred’s son, William § permalink

I am slowly going through everybody’s page and updating them. I have just finished William Delk  who was Ethelred and Nancy’s fifth child. I have added some children who I did not know about previously; I had only known about two of the boys. But after finding William’s death certificate, I saw that he had had ten children, with six of them being alive at the time of his death in Lowell, Michigan. Most of his family had moved to Coin, Iowa and with luck, I may get down that way and do a little research. In the meantime, the four children I added to William’s webpage were verified with census records. If there are any descendants of William who would like to share some information, please contact me at delkbrian@earthlink.net.

Mary May Delk

Just added five letters of recommendation that Mary May received to teach at some small rural schools in Clarke and Decatur counties. Will be adding several more of these documents later this year.

If you have any thing that you would like included on this site, drop me a line at: photos@familyhistoria.com.

Warren Delk

December 5th, 2013 § Comments Off on Warren Delk § permalink

Growing up I would get the following question, “Are you any relation to Warren?” My future wife even knew him. When she was a Rainbow Girl and he a Mason, she would talk to him about me. He, like all of the other Delk’s, was a storyteller. Ruth, his wife, would roll her eyes when he started recounting the time when he did this or that. There are plenty of people who could share some stories about Warren, and I wish they would. I am sure Ruth would be rolling her eyes listening to them. There are some updated documents about Warren on his landing page. Will be adding more stuff, and hopefully some stories later.

New Letters

August 23rd, 2013 § Comments Off on New Letters § permalink

I have added three letters to Martha (Maitlen) Delk from her son, Charles Wesley. Two of them are from when he was at Camp Pike, Arkansas. Apparently he did not want to be there and was trying to get Martha to write a letter stating that he was needed back home. The other letter was the birth announcement of his son, James William. There are some good details in that one about how they were surviving pretty much day to day.

Also fixed a few links over on the Maitlen side, I will be adding some documents in a little bit that I had scanned earlier, but held on to them until I had people to attach them to. Will keep you posted.

Music

January 21st, 2013 § Comments Off on Music § permalink

We know Martha (Maitlen) Delk wrote poems, and yes, I have more to display, but did you know one of her poems was put to music? Check it out on her page, under Documents. The song or poem, is titled “My Little Rosebud.” It may not have been a Top 100 chart topper, but it was good enough to be published and that is all that counts.  I will be posting more documents and photos in the coming week, until then, stay warm and keep in touch.

Letters from the home front…

January 16th, 2013 § Comments Off on Letters from the home front… § permalink

And letters to boys of World War One. We have a collection of letters and postcards to and from Frank, Russel and Charlie to Elmer and Martha. In them we learn the little things, who got married, who passed away, what Company is in quarantine because of an outbreak of scarlet fever; you know, the little things. Actually, these letters are a treasure chest of information not only about the Delk family during World War One, but of Weldon, Iowa and the different Companies that the three boys were in. So check out the new letters, they are mostly from Frank and Russel, or Elmer and Martha. Also, on some of them, I have included the scanned postcards with them.

I will be adding more documents in the coming weeks.
